Dr. Houston awarded for presentation

  • Dr. Houston was recently recognized for a ‘Meritorious Poster Presentation’ at the July 2014 Workshop for Investigators of Partnerships to Advance Cancer Health Equity (PACHE) at the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Houston selected for NMSU University Research Council Early Career Award

  • During the Fall 2014 Convocation, Dr. Houston will be recognized as a recipient of this university-wide honor owing to her research accomplishments.

Dr. Houston elected to the Council of the International Society for the Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC)

  • Elections by ISAC members completed in April of 2014, and Dr. Houston was named a new member to the council.

Dr. Houston named Scholar of the International Society for the Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC)

  • Dr. Houston was selected, with three other International Scholars to join the cohort of emerging scientists performing high-impact research in flow cytometry.

Wenyan Li wins safety award

  • In April, 2014  Wenyan Li was a selected recipient of the “Sentinel for Safety” Award bestowed by the NMSU Department of Chemical Engineering.

Dr. Houston receives NSF CAREER Award

  • In April of 2012 Dr. Jessica P. Houston was awarded an NSF CAREER award under the NSF BIO directorate and the Division of Biological Infrastructure (DBI). Her award will begin April 1, 2012, and addresses instrumentation development for biological research and specifically her laboratory’s work on fluorescence lifetime flow cytometry. She will also work with K-8 groups and develop new integrated science curricula for students based on her flow cytometry research. Follow the link to the award announcement.

Houston lab to collaborate with Dr. Amanda Ashley and Dr. Ryan Ashley in the College of Ag

  • In May of 2011, Dr. Amanda K. Ashley (PI) of the Center for Animal Health, Food Safety, and Bio Security, Ryan L. Ashley (Co-PI) of Animal and Range Sciences, and Dr. Houston (Co-PI) were awarded internal NMSU funds through an Interdisciplinary Research Grant Award by the Office of the Vice president for Research . The grant is for 1 year and is intended to seed a project that uses flow cytometry in a breast cancer application/study.

Houston lab to collaborate with Dr. Kevin Houston in Chemistry and Biochemistry

  • On January 15, 2011, Dr. Jessica Houston and Dr. Kevin Houston of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry were awarded internal NMSU funds through an Interdisciplinary Research Grant Award by the Office of the Vice President for Research. The grant is for 1 year and is intended to seed a project aimed at developing applications for time-resolved flow cytometry.

Houston lab to collaborate with Dr. Roger Brent from FHCRC

  • On Sept 1, 2010, Dr. Jessica Houston and Dr. Roger Brent of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center were awarded a Piolt-Project Award for their proposal to the NMSU-FHCRC Partnership for the Advancement of Cancer Research Project (NIH NCI). This work is aimed at leveraging time-resolved flow cytometry for quantification of cell signalling in yeast.
